The 10 fastest players in Bundesliga history

The 10 fastest players in Bundesliga history

Bayern Munich's Canadian Alphonso Davies holds the title of fastest player ever recorded in the Bundesliga, but who did he overtake to earn the speed player tag?

This list the 10 fastest players to ever hit the pace in the German top flight since the record started in 2011/12…

1) Alphonso Davies - 22.69 mph (36.51 km/h)

The 2019/20 season will be one that no one at Bayern will ever forget, especially Davies. It was his breakthrough campaign at the club after he arrived at the Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019, almost breaking the sound barrier in his 32nd game against Werder Bremen in a game the Bavarian side won the Bundesliga title - the first of six in 2020 - as he was recorded at 22.69 mph. No one has ever been faster on a Bundesliga pitch.

2) Achraf Hakimi - 22.67 mph (36.49 km/h)

The previous record holder - for a few months - was Borussia Dortmund's Hakimi after the speed gun caught him at 22.67 mph on the 20th when BVB beat Union Berlin 5-0 . He had previously broken the previous four-game record of 22.49 mph against RB Leipzig.

3) Leon Bailey - 22.62 mph (36.4 km/h)

You can't be a moron counting Usain Bolt among your friends - and no one can accuse Bailey of being one of them. The Bayer Leverkusen Jamaican winger set his third fastest pace since the start of the Bundesliga record when he hit 22.62 mph in his 33rd game of 2019/20 against Hertha Berlin.

4) Jerry St. Juste - 22.43 mph (36.1 km/h)

For starters, the arrival of the St. Mainz's Juste at the bottom of this list might come as a shock, but the Dutch defender was fast - very fast. In fact, he is the fastest player in the entire Bundesliga for the 2020/21 season with a top speed of 22.43 mph which he scored in the derby draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in the 32nd game.

= 5) Moussa Diaby - 22.37 mph (36.0 km/h)

In fact, Diaby recorded his fastest pace - 5th fastest ever in the Bundesliga - in the same game as Leverkusen's crime wingmate Bailey did it. The French striker is only a quarter of an hour behind his teammate.

= 5) Rabbi Matondo - 22.37 mph (36.0 km/h)

Schalke's Matondo has twice broken the 36 km/h magic barrier in the Bundesliga, for the first time in a midweek game at Fortuna Düsseldorf on the 28th of 2019/20. The Welsh forward then did so again on the final weekend of the season away from Freiburg.

= 5) Erling Haaland - 22.37 mph (36.0 km/h)

Not to be outdone by the Ruhr team, Haaland's Dortmund also twice reached the same maximum speed as Matondo, but this time in the 2020/21 campaign. Rushing with his long legs, the Norwegian hit the first 22.37 mph in his day 28 away game at VfB Stuttgart before repeating the feat three games later. when he scored a brace in Wolfsburg.

8) Kingsley Ehizibue - 22.31 mph (35.9 km/h)

Probably not much Kingsley expected to see here. Although Kingsley Coman is the fifth fastest player in 2020/21, he doesn't make the top 10 overall. Instead, Cologne full-back Ehizibue was in attendance. However, he stole the crown as the fastest Bundesliga player at the time of leaving Coman when he hit 22.31 mph on 7th 2019/20 during a match at Schalke.

= 9) Kevin Mbabu - 22.25 mph (35.8 km/h)

The ninth place is shared by two Wolfsburg defenders at 22.25 mph. First up was right-back Mbabu, who hit the top pace in the away game at Borussia Mönchengladbach at the weekend on the same day Davies set the record (32nd game 2019/20).

= 9) Maxence Lacroix - 22.25 mph (35.8 km/h)

Mbabu was joined a year later by centre-back Lacroix. The Frenchman has enjoyed a stellar first Bundesliga campaign and hit his top speed on day 31 of the 2020/21 game, most likely chasing Haaland a bit quicker.
